Applying Properties to the Rectangle
You will now apply a gradient to the rectangle.

1. With the Selection tool, click the rectangle to make sure it is active, or click the CtrlBG object in the Objects and Timeline panel.
   The Properties panel offers you the opportunity to apply Fill Brushes as well as Stroke Brushes. You can select different colors, and gradients in which you can set the fill or stroke for an object. In this example you will set the fill of the rectangle object to be a gradient.
2. Click Fill in the Brushes pane of the Properties panel. If you do not see the Brushes pane, you may need to scroll up in the Properties panel. Then click the Gradient brush icon. The rectangle is automatically filled with the default black and white gradient, or whatever gradient was last used.
   
   
   
   
   
3. Now, select the Gradient tool from the Tools panel. When the Gradient tool is clicked, a gradient slider appears in the rectangle. This slider can be used to change color stops, and the direction of the gradient.

4. Experiment a bit by clicking on a color stop (either one), then clicking on a color in the color picker. Choose the other color picker and apply a different color. Notice how the gradient changes to reflect the new blend of colors.
5. Now click the color stop nearest to the top of the rectangle object and choose white from the color picker.
   
   
   
   
   Click on the topmost color stop, and then click on white.
   
   
6. Click the bottom-most color stop and change that to white as well. Since both the stops are white, you see no gradient. You will now change the Alpha value of the bottom color stop.
7. Click on the bottom-most color stop to make sure it is still active, then click and drag (to the left) the Alpha slider over to 0%. The Alpha slider is the slider to the right of the Color Picker marked “A”. You can also simply double-click on the present Alpha value and type 0. The white now fades to transparent.
   
   
   
   Change the Alpha to 0%, and the gradient now fades to transparent.
   
   
8. Press Ctrl+Save to save your project, or choose File > Save. Keep the project open.
