Defining Baseline and Comparison Browsers
The first thing you’ll need to do is define a baseline browser. You’ll then use this to compare a page against other browsers. A note about the browsers used in this module; the versions of Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 are based on having IE 8 installed on your machine. It is not possible to have multiple versions of Internet Explorer installed on the same machine. In fact, this is one of the dilemmas that SuperPreview solves. Within the program is the internal code for Internet Explorer 6. Additionally, Internet Explorer 8 has a mode called IE7 Compatibility mode which allows you to preview a page in IE 8 as if it were IE7.

To access Firefox as a browser, it must be installed on your system. This module uses Firefox version 3.5. If you do not have Firefox installed, you will not see it appear in your SuperPreview browser list.

1. Double-click the default.html file to open it. Then choose File > Display in SuperPreview to launch this page into SuperPreview. In Expression Web, you are able to add and modify styles, text, images, etc. In SuperPreview, you cannot modify files, only preview them using different browser models.
2. You’ll begin by looking at two screens side-by-side, in Vertical Split Layout View. If necessary, click the Vertical Split Layout button at the top of your screen.
3. Click IE8, in the left side of the vertical layout, to define your baseline browser as Internet Explorer 8. Your page appears in the left-hand pane.
4. Click the empty comparison box to the right of the Baseline Browser box. Note that on the right hand screen there are a number of other browsers listed, including Firefox, Internet Explorer 6, and Internet Explorer 8-7. This last feature allows you to preview the site in Internet Explorer 7, even if version 7 is not installed on your computer. Click Internet Explorer 8-7 to add it.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Now click the Add, or plus sign (+) button at the bottom left to add other browsers to your comparison.
6. Add Internet Explorer 6 by clicking it in the right hand screen.
7. Click the Add button again, and add Firefox. When complete, you should have one baseline browser using IE8 and three browsers as comparison, IE8>7, IE6 and Firefox. (Assuming you have it installed on your system).
