Defining data sources in SketchFlow
In this exercise, you will populate a listbox with images of snowboards and sample text.

  1. Click the rectangle below the All Terrain heading. Look at the top of the Properties panel and note that this is a SketchRectangleSL.
You will need to delete this object because it will not accept data. In the next few steps, you will be dynamically adding images of your snowboards and text in this area.
Press the Delete Key to remove the rectangle.
  2. In the Assets panel, expand the Styles > SketchStyles category and click the ListBox-Sketch object. Then click and drag in your artboard to duplicate the width and height of the rectangle.
  3. Choose Window > Data if necessary to open this panel. Click the Project line to highlight it, then click the first icon Add sample data source and then choose Define New Sample Data.

  4. The Define New Sample Data window appears. Type SnowboardData, then press OK. You will see the default collection of data properties in the data window. SketchFlow puts two generic properties in this collection labeled Property1 and Property2. You will now take a look at this sample data.
  5. Click the Edit sample values icon to the right of the Collection.

    Editing the sample values.

The Edit Sample Values window appears. In the first column are the sample text values for Property1 and in the second column are the sample Boolean (True/False) values for Property2.
  6. Click the Change property type menu to the right of Property1 to open it.

Click the Change property type menu.

This menu lists the options for the type of sample data. The default type is String or text. Since this is Property1 it will be the first value to be entered into your ListBox and in this case, it’s not what you want.
  7. Click the Type menu and change it to Image. If you look below the menu, you will see a series of chair images in the first column. This is SketchFlow’s default image catalog and while it might suffice when there is nothing else, you will actually populate this property with your own images.
  8. Click the Browse button and navigate to the Module_10 folder and locate the SampleData folder and double-click it, then double-click the Snowboards folder and finally select the Snowboards_Files folder and click Select Folder.
The first column for Property1 will now be populated with Snowboard images.

    The snowboard images.

  9. In the column for Property2, click the Change property type menu and change this value to String. This will place Lorem ipsum (Placeholder text) into this column. Click OK.
  10. Since Property1 and Property2 are not very descriptive names, you should change them. In the Data panel, double-click the Property1 label and type images.Press return. Double-click Property2 and type text, then press return again.
  11. To apply the data to the ListBox, click the Collection and drag it onto the All Terrain ListBox.

Click and drag to the All Terrain ListBox.

Your ListBox will now populate with data, the snowboards and beneath, the text.
