Adding an image to your project
In this next part of the module, you add an image to be used as a background. You can import artwork in many forms and place them on your artboard, including .jpg, .png, as well as the native Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop formats

1. Double-click on the Welcome screen to open it.
2. Choose Project > Add Existing Item.
3. Browse to the module03_assets folder and select the image named bg_welcome, and press Open.
   The image is added to the Projects list.
4. To add an image from your Projects list to the artboard, you simply click and drag the image on to the artboard. Keep in mind, Expression Blend will allow you to import pretty much anything into the Projects list. But if the file is rejected by the artboard (won’t allow it to be placed), it will not work in your project.
   Note: If you place objects on top of each other, and need to change the stacking order, simply right-click on an item and choose Order from the contextual menu.
   
   
   

Helpful Precision Tools
In this section, you discover some of the precision tools available to you to make sure controls are positioned exactly where you need them to be.

Notice the icons that appear in the bottom-left of the workspace. By selecting these icons you can take advantage of additional artboard features.



A. Turn off rendering of Effects (faster screen redraw.) B. Show/Hide snap grid. C. Turn on snapping of gridlines.
D. Turn off snapping to snaplines. E. Show annotations.

1. Click the Show snap grid icon. If it states Hide snap gird, your grid is already displayed.
2. Click Turn on snapping to gridlines. Note that the default settings for gridlines can be changed by selecting Tools > Options.
   
   
   

Adding the Navigation Bar
You will now use the SketchStyles to create a navbar for your page.

1. 1 Click the Asset library and from within the same SketchStyles section, locate the Rectangle-Sketch then click and drag to create a rectangle roughly 100 pixels high by 600 pixels wide.
2. In the Asset library, locate the Button-Sketch.
3. Drag the button over from the SketchStyles panel inside the top rectangle.
4. Click the Selection tool, then click the new button once to select it, then press and hold down on the Alt key and click and drag to the right to duplicate (clone) the button. Do this two more times in order to make four buttons. Don’t worry too much about the spacing between the buttons, however if you want to fine-tune the position, you can select a button and use the arrow keys to nudge them.
5. Double-click the first button to select the default text. Rename this button Home and then the next three buttons, Boards, Boots, and Cart respectively.

6. Choose File > Save to save your document. Next you will convert this navbar into a Component Screen in order to create a master navigation bar that you can add to all your screens.
